 Solar Protection

Unwanted solar gain through windows can cause all sorts of problems even in our moderate climate. Solar gain through glass can cause:
  • Increased internal temperatures and uncomfortable conditions for the buildings occupants - it is a well known fact that internal temperatures in excess of 24°C lead to loss of concentration, reduce productivity, and increase risk of accidents.
  • Substantial increased running costs of A/C plants.
  • Non Compliance with Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 - Regulation 7.

In terms of glare caused by solar intrusion through the glazing this can also lead to:

  • Extreme discomfort to building occupants.
  • Eye strain when using PC monitors.
  • Inability to see PC monitors.

The standard response to these problems is blinds which cut out much of the light and view through the glazing, and are not that effective at reducing solar heat gain and glare.

With the right specification of LLumar® performance solar control film, this will let the light through the glass and being optically clear will maintain the occupants view through the glazing.

It can also reject up to 80% of total solar energy and reduce glare by up to 90%. With this type of solar enegy rejection this can typically reduce internal temperatures by up to 8°C, and can reduce the running cost of A/C so that there can be a 2-3 year payback on the installation costs of the performance window film.

If safety/secutity is also an issue then there are combined safety/solar control films within the LLumar® range.

All LLumar® solar control films will also  block in excess of 99% of harmful ultraviolet transmission.

Manx can advise as to the right performance film to address your glass related problems.
